Kids for IT Camp 2016 (Camp 2)

This camp will provide a fun, hands-on program allowing students the opportunity to explore technology related careers. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of computer networking. They will design their own game in Scratch and use various other applications as a basis for student inquiry of technology and its many applications. Each student will also use and explore an innovative piece of technology during the camp and it will be theirs to keep at the conclusion of the week.

For students entering 5th through 7th grades. Maximum number of participants is 12.

Health Care Camp 2016

This camp will focus on the body systems and how they work. Students will be using the SIMS (simulated) mannequin; learning basic health care skills and basic first aid skills. There will be guest speakers discussing the different occupations available in the health care field and one day will be filled with a job shadowing experience at a local hospital.

For students entering 6th through 9th grades. Maximum number of participants is 10.

Techsploration 2016 - Grades 5 - 9

During this program, students will learn about the many technical job opportunities in the region and the local educational providers who can help prepare them for careers in the technical fields. Students will participate in a variety of hands-on learning opportunities in multiple shops. These activities will be based on the student's age level to ensure safety and success.

STEM Survival Camp 2016

Do you want to have a nice, relaxing vacation? Then this is NOT for you! In this STEM camp, you’ll spend two fun-filled days surviving the Great Austin STEM Lab Disaster. The lights won’t work. Who needs them? We’ll build our own flashlight! The fans won’t work! Who cares? We’ll make one out of a battery, a magnet, and some wire! Think you have what it takes to survive? There’s only one way to find out!

TMI (Think, Make, Improve) Summer IT Camp 2016

Participants in this camp will have in depth experiences with MinecraftEdu, Raspberry Pi3, Programming/Coding, Augmented/Virtual Reality, Geocaching, and the ability to explore a topic of their own (3D design/printing, Drones, Rockets, Legos, K'Nex, Ozobots, Role-playing games, Movie production/green screening) during our daily Genius Hour. Students will receive a Raspberry Pi3 computing system and a Google Cardboard Kit (phone excluded) at the end of the week.

Catch the STEMspiration 2015 (Grades 9 - 12)

As a participant, you will experience a combination of skills to include computer programming, engineering, and laser engraving.  Between the two days, you will be taken through a series of tutorials that enable you to create an animated mini movie.  You will also have the opportunity to learn the basics of CorelDraw techniques in order to produce a product on a laser engraver.  Lastly, you’ll experience the creativity of turning nearly anything into a game controller or keyboard.  Come unleash your creativity!

Imagine for a moment that you could turn nearly anything into a game controller or keyboard. What would you do? Create a drum kit from oranges? Play Doom with your alphabet soup? With the MaKey MaKey, it's possible!  Spend a day to see where your imagination can take you.

For students entering grades 4 - 8, Maximum number of participants is 18 - 20. Registration is open to Austin Area School District students through May 1st, after that, registration will be open to students from other districts on a first come, first served basis.

BASD STEM Career Exploration Camp

During the first four days of camp, students will become familiar with the SMARTlab environment at Fretz Middle School, will explore STEM career pathways within the SMARTlab curriculum, will program robots utilizing available software, and will then program their own take-away solar robots. The last day of the camp will find students becoming familiar with Industrial Design at Bradford Area High School by using inventor and CAD software as a basic introduction to the course.  Students will then transition to the Machine Shop where they will use the CNC machine for Industrial application.

Advanced Kids for IT Summer Camp

This camp will provide advanced programming opportunities to students; with an emphasis on game design. They will explore various programming languages/software programs including Scratch, Ruby and Game Maker. Students will further explore career options in the technology field. Each student will receive a jump drive and a programming book for use during the camp and it will be theirs to keep at the conclusion of the week.
