Nine New Practical Nurses!  

    December 15, 2006 was a very special day for nine ladies that have spent countless hours and made numerous sacrifices to realize a dream.

    Coudersport High School Auditorium was the setting as nine students graduated as practical nurses from Penn College’s Practical Nursing program. Classes were held in Coudersport at the Potter County Education Council and Wellsboro at Penn College North Campus. Practical experience was gained at Sweden Valley Manor and Charles Cole Memorial Hospital.

    Graduating were: Cortney Cowburn of Coudersport; Lillian Cowburn of Coudersport; Eryn Haynes of Roulette; Tammy Hilliard of Genesee; Patricia Knowles of Genesee; Victoria Lamond of Coudersport; Lori McKenrick of Coudersport; Cindy Sell of Coudersport; and Rebekah Stahley of Coudersport.

    The graduation ceremony opened with
remarks from Brenda Abplanalp, Director
North Campus Outreach Services. Helene Nawrocki, Executive Director Potter County Education Council, was the distinguished speaker and presented a program entitled “Lessons from Oz.” Brenda Abplanalp then presented the graduates certificates, nursing instructor Lori Edkin-Leisey “pinned” the graduates and Helene Nawrocki presented each graduate with a red rose on behalf of the PCEC. Netra Baker presented Lori McKendrick with the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Award and Cindy Sell received the Sweden Valley Manor award.

    A reception for family and friends was held following the ceremony. Graduates expressed their appreciation for the support they received from their friends and family, the staff of the PCEC, Mikki Elliot and the staff at Sweden Valley Manor and Netra Baker and the staff at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital for their support.

    Another Practical Nursing program has just begun on January 4, 2007. This cohort will be a full-time, 12-month program. If you are interested in nursing or furthering your education in any field, please call the PCEC at 814-274-4877, 814-642-2295 or 814-435-9490.
